The 2006 Sugar Processing Research Institute, Inc., (SPRI) Science and Technology Award will be given on September 19, 2006, at the SPRI Award's Banquet to be held in The Grande Hotel Sao Pedro, Aguas de Sao Pedro, S.P., Brazil. SPRI 2006 Conference on Sugar Processing Research will be held on September 17-20, 2006, in Aguas de Sao Pedro, Brazil, with the conference theme: "Frontiers in Sugar Processing Research." The winner of the award will receive a $1,000 cash prize plus travel expenses to the conference and functions in Brazil.
The Science and Technology Award, which combines the previous SPRI Science Award and the Industrial Technology Award, is for the purpose of promoting science and technology in sucrose processing and production. It shall be offered to an outstanding scientist whose research and development accomplishments have been distinguished by their originality and their contribution to the sugar processing and production industry, or whose contribution to the industry in the development of technology, or implementation of technology, has been distinguished by its originality and the resulting contribution to sucrose processing and production. The award will be presented at the SPRI Conference.
Candidates for the award shall be recommended in writing, by a senior officer of laboratories, research institutes, universities or the sucrose industry throughout the world. The nominee shall have at least 10 years of active research and development experience in sucrose science and technology, in a research and development environment of a university and/or research institute and/or a company engaged in the business of sucrose processing and production, and shall have at least one recent relevant sucrose related publication in an internationally recognized journal.
The deadline for receipt of completed nomination forms is on May 31, 2006.
